On 27th May Kell Brook fights Errol Spence Jr. in front of his home fans at Bramall Lane in what is probably his toughest test at welterweight. This is a fight I’m really excited about as I’m a big fan of Brook and have always liked watching him fight. I’m also excited to watch Spence fight as there’s been a lot of fuss about him in America for a few years.

This is a real 50-50 fight and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends with a KO for either fighter. Brook’s weight will be a big factor in this fight as his last fight was up at middleweight when he lost his unbeaten record to GGG. If Brook struggles with the welterweight limit he may lose stamina in the later rounds and if he does I would fancy Spence to apply pressure and get the KO as he looks very dangerous when he’s on the front foot. On the flipside if Brook is comfortable at the weight and isn’t too drained then his extra size could be a decisive factor.
Spence has never boxed anyone as good as Brook so he can’t be allowed to get his confidence up. I think Brook needs to get off to a good start in this fight and try to put a dent in Spence early on and not let him get into any kind of rhythm. Brook has the better jab in my opinion and needs to use it to keep Spence at bay. Brook is also a great counter puncher and his straight right hand is one of his best shots that should work well against a southpaw.
Brook hasn’t boxed at welterweight for over a year and if he isn’t 100% strong at the weight then some body shots could really affect him later in the fight. By all accounts Spence’s best punch is the body shot so he’s going to want to land those early and throughout the fight and hope Brook slows down and then push for the stoppage.
Both fighters weighed in today and looked absolutely shredded so i’m expecting them to be at their best and to put on a great fight. It’s got the potential to be a fight of the year candidate and I’m expecting a really exciting fight after the first few rounds. I really hope Brook can pull it off but Spence is a dangerous fighter.
My prediction:
Brook by knockout in the first half of the fight or Spence with a late stoppage.
